A great look at Jamie Foxx's life in growing up and his raising his two daughters。 His grandmother who raised him was definitely something else。 Jamie's story is told in a no nonsense and honest kind of way。 An enjoyable read。 Note: The book does contain a lot of profanity if you find that offensive。 I won this book in a GoodReads Giveaway。 A great look at Jamie Foxx's life in growing up and his raising his two daughters。 His grandmother who raised him was definitely something else。 Jamie's story is told in a no nonsense and honest kind of way。 An enjoyable read。 Note: The book does contain a lot of profanity if you find that offensive。 I won this book in a GoodReads Giveaway。 。。。more

Quick and amusing。 A peek into the life of a well known star and his father daughter relationships。

I won this book as a GOODREADS giveaway, and I am happy that happened。 I am not sure I would have bought the book on my own because, although I like Jamie Foxx well enough, his view on parenthood didn't grab my interest。 That would have been unfortunate。In this book, we learn a lot about Jamie's past and his upbringing。 There's a lot of heartbreak but the love is on every page。 His writing seems to be honest。 He doesn't try to come across as a perfect father, something, as a reader, I appreciate I won this book as a GOODREADS giveaway, and I am happy that happened。 I am not sure I would have bought the book on my own because, although I like Jamie Foxx well enough, his view on parenthood didn't grab my interest。 That would have been unfortunate。In this book, we learn a lot about Jamie's past and his upbringing。 There's a lot of heartbreak but the love is on every page。 His writing seems to be honest。 He doesn't try to come across as a perfect father, something, as a reader, I appreciate。 It's clear his two daughters are vital parts of his life。 I believe that, in reading about Jamie's continuing journey, all of us could pick up some tips on being a good person, a good guardian of children。I admire Jamie Foxx for not speaking disparagingly of the mothers of his children。 When I read someone's story and they denigrate the person that co-parents with them, my first thought is "you've just told your child that half of them is something negative"。 Mr。 Foxx's story seems to be more about maintaining positive relationships when possible。I would definitely read another book from Jamie Foxx。One warning: The book contains a lot of profanity so be prepared for the "f" word and more。 。。。more

I enjoyed this one。 What a great way to end Non-fiction November。

An endearing (albeit, sometimes crass) look at parenting from the one and only Jamie Foxx。 I listened to this book and found myself laughing out loud throughout。 Foxx provides insight into how he grew up and became the father to two young women。 The stories are heartwarming and the lessons, worthwhile。

Stefanie

Very entertaining, funny and sweet

Loved this book! As a mom to 3 daughters about the same age as his oldest I could relate to a lot of what he talks about。 So good to see him supportiing raising strong, intelligent, self confident women。 And it is a humorous read too。 I received this book as part of a Goodreads giveaway but the opinions expressed are solely my own。

Meh。 That’s how I felt finishing this book。 A lot of ramblings of stories that don’t all fit together。 Lots of bragging about himself。 Every chapter ending with a small paragraph of his “lessons learned” and they all felt a bit too cheesy for me。 Oh well。 🤷🏽‍♀️

It was an interesting read to see Jamie Foxx in the role of a parent instead of an actor/musician。 Loved his story of growing up especially the parts about his grandmother。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I agree with some reviewers that this memoir lacks a theme to carry it throughout is disjointed, jumping back and forth in time while telling Jamie’s story through lessons he’s tried to teach his daughter, but ends up learning from them。 It’s also steeping with humor, is entirely more chatty than literary and screams Jamie Foxx from the first to the last page。 Im a huge fan and learned a lot about the comedian, actor, singer, entertainer Jamie Foxx。

I enjoyed this book。

A fun and brisk read from one of the most versatile entertainers out there。 Foxx sprinkles life lessons raising two daughters alongside stories from his rise and experiences in Hollywood。 I wish there were more behind the scenes recollections, but the ones we get are a blast。 An entertaining bio that will quickly pass a lazy afternoon。

Interesting life Jamie has had so far! Kudos to his daughters, too!The "3" doesn't reflect how much I enjoyed reading about him but the writing style which is straightforward but not "literary。" Interesting life Jamie has had so far! Such an enjoyable read/listen! The audiobook is narrated by Jamie himself and it didn't even seem like listening to a book, it was like a stand up show or sitcom。 Jamie is such a great story teller and gives some great life lessons and parenting advice。 Thank you so much to Grand Central Publishing and Hachette Audio for the book to read/listen and review。 Such an enjoyable read/listen! Act Like You Got Some Sense by Jamie Foxx5⭐ - read and rated by my husband, Tom。First, huge thank you to @tandemcollectiveuk k, @iamjamiefoxx miefoxx and @littlebrownbookgroup_uk kgroup_uk for having us on this exciting read along。I'm really surprised at how much of an eye opening, emotional read this was for both of us。 Going through the prompt questions with Tom opened a lot of old wounds and allowed us to have a conversation about his past and upbringing that we've never had before。Jamie did Act Like You Got Some Sense by Jamie Foxx5⭐ - read and rated by my husband, Tom。First, huge thank you to @tandemcollectiveuk k, @iamjamiefoxx miefoxx and @littlebrownbookgroup_uk kgroup_uk for having us on this exciting read along。I'm really surprised at how much of an eye opening, emotional read this was for both of us。 Going through the prompt questions with Tom opened a lot of old wounds and allowed us to have a conversation about his past and upbringing that we've never had before。Jamie did such an amazing job with opening and telling us all about him, his life, growing up, learning the aspects of being a father, and what his daughters have taught him in his life。As it's non-fiction November, we think every father should read this; just get the tissues ready! 。。。more

The entertainment/inspirational value in this memoir is high。 Jamie is not ‘the’ traditional dad, though he embodies traditional values。 He’s a fierce protector, a solid provider and is available to his daughters。 So, (of course) he gets men respecting women right。 I laughed hardest about them hashtags, along with his growing up experiences。。。 his version of a 'time out' and that bit on the ‘calm’…with the footprints in the ceiling! Oh man, too funny, similar to Miss Anelise with the “Jamie Foxx The entertainment/inspirational value in this memoir is high。 Jamie is not ‘the’ traditional dad, though he embodies traditional values。 He’s a fierce protector, a solid provider and is available to his daughters。 So, (of course) he gets men respecting women right。 I laughed hardest about them hashtags, along with his growing up experiences。。。 his version of a 'time out' and that bit on the ‘calm’…with the footprints in the ceiling! Ultimately this feels like a cathartic, vulnerable reflection from Jamie Foxx。 It's interesting as that, but not as a parenting book or even as something autobiographical。 I'm glad he wrote it for himself, but only people who are very interested in the man himself (Jamie Foxx) will probably get a lot out of this book。It's a very quick read and interesting because of an autobiographical view of a life most of us will never see: half Hollywood, half small town Texas 'hood' parenting, with a dose o Ultimately this feels like a cathartic, vulnerable reflection from Jamie Foxx。 It's interesting as that, but not as a parenting book or even as something autobiographical。 I'm glad he wrote it for himself, but only people who are very interested in the man himself (Jamie Foxx) will probably get a lot out of this book。It's a very quick read and interesting because of an autobiographical view of a life most of us will never see: half Hollywood, half small town Texas 'hood' parenting, with a dose of non-traditional family structure。In terms of content - the main punch line ios Jamie has grown to care about his daughters and their upbringing over the years, despite his mistakes。 Unfortunately the illustrations in story form don't really shine the way he thinks they do, especially in terms of anyone hoping to glean wisdom or strategies from what he is saying。 That's a shame, because Jamie has had such an interesting, colorful and successful life - one that was far from guaranteed。Jamie's at his strongest when he's directly advocating for how to raise daughters in a world that's stacked against them。 But surprisingly those moments are few and far between - interspersed with some important moments from his life。The ultimately confusing messaging make it hard to recommend you pick up the book - if you're looking for autobiography or a parenting book or some commentary on the world you get not a lot of it。 You leave wishing that he had thought more about what, exactly, he wanted to say with this book。 。。。more

Jamie Fox was raised by a no-nonsense grandma。。。think Madea。 In this book he tells about being raised by her and how it has influenced his parenting。 Surprisingly, this book was pretty good。 I thought it would be about him bragging about what a great job he has done but he gives plenty of examples of how he failed and how his daughters are the ones guiding and teaching him to be a better dad。 A good fast read with lots of laughs。

Jeremy Cox

This book is a great story of a father trying to do his best, despite his upbringing and amazing success。 Jamie Foxx is very candid and full of practical wisdom on many topics。 And, of course, he is hilarious。

Kathleen

A funny, thoughtful memoir ---a pleasure to read。

I didn’t think this was going to turn out to be a 5 star read but the further I got into it, especially the second half of the book, I realized how much I was enjoying it and how true and honest he comes across。Fox describes his childhood and each section and then relates it to how he is raising his two daughters using what he learned from his strict up bringing by his grandparents。 It’s a short audiobook, just under six hours but the time flies。 He is funny, telling stories on himself but then I didn’t think this was going to turn out to be a 5 star read but the further I got into it, especially the second half of the book, I realized how much I was enjoying it and how true and honest he comes across。Fox describes his childhood and each section and then relates it to how he is raising his two daughters using what he learned from his strict up bringing by his grandparents。 It’s a short audiobook, just under six hours but the time flies。 He is funny, telling stories on himself but then grows serious when talking about his parenting style。 There is a great balance between the humor of it all and the seriousness of raising children today。 It is abundantly clear that family means everything to him and he loves having them around。 This book was a delight to listen to and it shows that his heart is as big as his personality。 It also shows that he is a good man and he will do anything for the people he loves。 The audiobook was fun and I laughed out loud a lot。 。。。more
